BEAT THE HEAT HIGH SCHOOL DRAGS

It's plain and simple! Kids that love working on cars are also into seeing how they perform. A natural extension to tinkering on the car is a safe way to see your skills used to increase that vehicle performance. This year, Thunder Valley will present a High School Drag Racing program that is a fun, safe way to use your individual driving skills along with mechanical ability to compete against other students and schools.

It is not how fast the car goes, but how consistent the car and driver are on each run. The student can modify- the vehicle and increase the performance, but he or she needs to have a consistent run down the old quarter mile to be in the winners circle. Reaction at the starting line is or utmost importance just as it is in track and field with sprint races.

The High School Drags are open to any current or recent graduate (May 2009) of high school.

Trophies are awarded for the Winner and R-up at each race.  There will be points awarded to the team, and individual. Five points for entering and five points for every round won. At the beginning of October,  the individual with the most points will represent Thunder Valley in the High School Class at the NHRA Division 4 Bracket Finals held at the Texas Motorplex in October. The individual winner must be a member of NHRA to participate in this event. The overall points winner will receive a trophy, jacket, gold card,  at the year end banquet.

The timing system will be set up in a bracket racing handicap system.

Participants will be required to register and pay a fee of $5 and gets points and a permanent Thunder Valley number. All participants under 18 years must have a minor waiver consent forms signed by a parent and guardian and on file with the track before racing.

Entry Fee for car and driver is $15.00. Entry fee for Spectators is $10.50.

After purchasing a tech card, the student must proceed to the back of the staging lanes to be teched-in. The National Hot Rod Association, the largest drag racing sanctioning body in the world, develops the rules and regulations used for this event. The general safety rules include seat belts and depending on the quickness of the car, helmets and other basic rules that apply to highway use. The average car on the highway will pass the NHRA rules with just a few modifications that most students can easily do on their own.

While being teched-in, the student must sign up for the race at  tech  listing name, school, and permanent number.
