TECH GUIDELINES

(Running 7.50 and Slower)

Thunder Valley Raceway Park is an NHRA sanctioned dragstrip and adheres to all the rules outlined in the official NHRA Rule book.   For detailed information regarding NHRA categories and rules obtain an NHRA Rule book.  The following basic safety rules apply to all vehicles including Test and Tune and Bracket and Eliminator classes. The rules are strictly applied and any violation may result in forfeiture of driving privileges until the violation is corrected.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Long pants and full T-Shirt (no tank tops), and shoes (no sandals).

  • Radiator catch can overflow - at least one pint
  • Seat Belts

  • Doors must be functional from both inside and outside

  • Hub caps and trim rings removed
  • Safe windshields
  • Good tires
  • Brakes in good working order
  • One operating tail light (no blinking or flashinglights)
  • Must have neutral safety switch and reverse lock out device
  • Batteries must be securely mounted.  If relocated, must have master cutoff switch
  • All cars must be self starting
  • Carburetor inlet must not be openly exposed

If using nitrous oxide system: All bottles must be securely mounted, stamped with minimum DOT 1800 lb. rating and identified as nitrous oxide. If bottle is in driver's compartment, it must be equipped with a relief valve vented outside of driver's compartment. System must be commercially available and installed per manufacturer's recommendation.

  • 13.99 or quicker must have Snell 90, 95, K98, 2000, SFI 31.1A ,31.2A, 41.1A, OR 41.2A helmet
  • If car hits T-tops or is a convertible, the driver must have Snell 90, 95, K98, 2000, SFI 31.1A ,31.2A, 41.1A, OR 41.2A helmet
  • Neck collar mandatory in all cars running 9.99 or quicker or exceeding 135 M.P.H.
  • Convertibles must have roll bar if running 13.99 or quicker
  • Automatic transmission lines must be high pressure type
  • Pressurized containers (i.e.air bottles)must be D.O.T. approved
  • Hood scoops may not extend more than 11 inches above original hood surface
  • Carb return springs If linkage altered, must have toe loop on pedal
  • All holes in floor, firewall, and rear must be plugged
  • Fuel block or regulator must be 6 inches from firewall and rear must be plugged
  • No more than 12 inches of rubber hose in fuel system from tank to carb
  • No fuel lines in drivers compartment
  • Retention strap mandatory with traction bars
  • Drive shaft loop required 13.99 or quicker
  • Roll bar mandatory in all cars running 11.00-11.99
  • Roll cage mandatory in all vehicles running 10.99 or quicker or any car exceeding 135 mph.
  • Three inch driver restraint system (seat harness) SFI Spec 16.1 mandatory in any car 11. 99 or quicker and convertibles 13.99 and quicker.
  • Master cut-off mandatory for vehicles 9.99 and quicker or 135 m.p.h. or if battery is relocated.
  • Jacket required at 10.00 to 11.99 meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/I
  • Jacket and pants (meeting SFI Spec 3.2 A/5) and gloves (meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1)  required at 9.99 to 7.50 or any vehicle exceeding 135 m.p.h. 
  • Only factory tint on windows
  • Must have metal valve stems 11.99 or quicker
  • 9.99 cars must be chassis certified and have NHRA license.

 

BIKES

  • Chain guard.
  • Ignition cut off switch attached to the rider with a lanyard for 10.99 or quicker.
  • High top shoes or boots (leather).
  • Leather jacket and gloves
  • Rear Fender.
  • Helmet: Full face Snell 90, 95,K98, 2000 or SFI 31.2A or 41.2A .

  • Clear face shield.

  • License for 9.99 or quicker.
  • All bikes must have snap-back throttle.
  • Fuel shut-off valve mandatory.
  • Full leathers or SFI Spec. 40.1/2 suit mandatory at 120 m.p.h. or quicker.
  • Delay boxes Ok
  • Pressurized containers (i.e. air bottles) must be DOT approved and properly mounted.
  • All engines must be self starting - push or rolling starts prohibited.

ALL WAIVERS AND TECH CARDS MUST BE FILLED OUT AND SIGNED PROPERLY AND COMPLETELY
